Mancs share their photos of the Northern Lights after staggering display seen above the UK

Wow...

The UK was treated to the rare spectacle of the Northern Lights last night, a phenomenon only usually seen much further north.

The auroras were lighting up the skies in dazzling colours, visible as far south as Cornwall.

And Mancs have been rushing to social media to share their own photos of the natural light display.

Some lucky passengers on board an EasyJet flight to Reykjavik were treated to a 360-degree view of the phenomenon, with stunning results.

One passenger wrote: “Big thanks to the @easyJet pilot of EZY1806 from Reykjavik to Manchester who did a 360 fly by mid flight to make sure all passengers could see the incredible Northern Lights.”

While people in Scotland have captured incredible pictures of pink and green curtains, spirals and flickers, taken from ground level, Mancs captured… clouds.

Yep, in true north west style, our view of the northern lights was obscured by a thin layer of drizzle all night.

At least everyone has seen the funny side though – here are some of our favourite photos of last night’s aurora.
